Farewell to Nangis: Survived, Thrived, and Ready for Some Me-Time

Ah, the day has arrived. The day I wave goodbye to my Nangis—my loud, crazy, endlessly entertaining little posse. Don’t get me wrong, they were…something. But as much as I’ll miss the chaos, I am celebrating the bliss of quiet, unshared snacks, and being able to hear my own thoughts again. This is my love letter (and mild roast) to my Nangis. So, here’s to the memories, the meltdowns, and, yes, my much-deserved alone time. Let’s spill the tea on this adventure, shall we?

First Impressions: The Herd Arrives 🐑

From day one, it was clear—they came as a pack, and you’d be hard-pressed to separate them for more than 10 minutes. It was like a buddy system gone extreme; they even blinked in sync! When they landed, I felt like I had a whole parade trailing behind me, all bundled together like they couldn’t survive apart. Breaking into this collective took some effort, like trying to gently convince a school of fish to split into groups of one. But hey, I was determined to make it work.

Nightly Puppy Adventures 🐶✨

If there’s one thing that brought us together, it was our obsession with a stray dog’s puppies. Picture this: a mom dog and her seven puppies lurking outside the house, and us swooning over them like we’d never seen baby animals in our lives. So naturally, the nightly “puppy heist” began. Every evening, we’d tiptoe out, scoop up a few puppies, then run back screaming as soon as the mother even looked our way. One night, we had the genius idea to wash a few of them. We got through one poor, shivering pup before we panicked, worried they’d catch cold, and scurried back inside. It was chaos, it was ridiculous, and somehow, it was our thing. I think those puppies are probably thrilled they were leaving, honestly.

UNO, Boy Talk & Car Karaoke 🎶

Ah, yes, our bonding rituals: merciless rounds of UNO, boy talk, and absolutely destroying the peace with car karaoke. Let’s start with UNO. Spoiler: I’m not here to play nice. I was out for blood, and apparently, my competitive spirit was too much for these delicate souls. We’d throw down our cards with maximum attitude, and I’d laugh while they cried foul. Then there were our deep, philosophical discussions (aka gossiping about boys) that brought out all the sisterly wisdom we could muster. And car karaoke? Let’s just say, anyone nearby thought they were front row at the concert of the year—volume at max, talent optional.

Dance Party at Loku Teacher’s House 💃🏽

One of the highlights had to be our invitation to Loku Teacher’s house—a cross between a party and a Bollywood movie scene. Picture this: we’re dancing, shouting out lyrics, and basically making it our personal music video. By this point, we were officially unhinged, and no one could tell us otherwise. Cue the snacks, the beats, and yes, our best (and worst) dance moves. Who even needs a club when you have a the head Teacher's house, a speaker, and zero shame?

Safari at 3 AM: From Exhaustion to Giggling Fits 🦁

Nothing says bonding like rolling out of bed at 3 a.m. to squeeze into a safari van. Tired faces all around, but within ten minutes, we’re cracking up and pointing at rocks, pretending they’re “rare exotic species.” “Oh look, an animal you’d never see in our country—a street dog!” Between us hyping up regular cows and almost falling asleep, we had our adorable little sidekick Minu trying to mimic animal calls while we laughed and tried to hush him up, convinced we’d scare away every creature in a ten-mile radius. We were lucky to see anything with all the screaming and fake whispering.

Karaoke Nights with the Local Star 🎤

One of the local school’s music teachers turned out to be a famous singer! Naturally, we found ourselves in his bar, where we proceeded to perform karaoke like we were on a world tour (with an audience of, like, two very unimpressed locals). We sang our hearts out, danced like no one was watching—because, well, no one really was—and just lost ourselves in the music. It was one of those nights that felt utterly free and unforgettable.

The Cake Hunters 🍰🎂

I’m not sure who suggested cake that first time, but it set off a chain reaction none of us could control. Once we had a taste, there was no going back. “Cake hunters” isn’t just a cute name; it was our official job title. We’d sniff out bakeries like bloodhounds, and sometimes we had three icing-laden cakes at home. We became pros at tracking down cakes wherever we went—locals probably thought we were some kind of dessert treasure hunters. Can you blame us? Sweet, sticky bliss.

Meet the Nangis: The Cast of Characters 🎭

Korinna: Sweet as cup cake but with just the right amount of sass. Always down for a duet, whether we were blasting car karaoke or stealing the show at a local bar. Korinna brought the cozy vibes that kept us all balanced. She’s the calm in our chaos. Without her warm energy, we’d probably be lost in a ditch somewhere.

Tall Mona:  Our fearless wild child, ready for literally anything. Midnight puppy heist? No problem. Dancing in the rain? She's already there. Tall Mona embraced every adventure, from the local weather to our most ridiculous plans, with pure joy. Rain or shine, she brought an energy that made every single thing we did feel like the best idea ever. An absolute legend.

Zoe: Snack lover, UNO assassin, and queen of boldness. Zoe brought the perfect mix of boldness and kindness—keeping us real while also wiping the floor with me in UNO. She brought just the right mix of warmth and humor to every moment, and honestly, I’ll miss her quick wit and genuine kindness. Not to mention her insane art skills. I don’t think I’ll ever meet anyone else who could devour snacks and deliver sass with as much flair.

Little Mona: My soul sister in gossip and debate, with just the right amount of crazy. Whether we were getting under each other’s skin or having one of our “intense” debates, she was my unfiltered mirror. We could read each other’s moods without saying a word, and our arguments were epic (complete with pacing around a whole table, and full dramatic effect). Little Mona is my sister in spirit, and I’ll miss our fiery discussions as much as our fun.

Having all of them around was like gaining a bunch of sisters (who occasionally drove me bonkers). I don’t think I’ll ever forget our crazy, chaotic times together.

So Long, My Little Nangis 💖

So here’s to my Nangis—the group that somehow managed to drive me nuts and steal my heart in one fell swoop. As much as I’m basking in my newfound peace, I know I’ll miss every bit of the madness. Thanks for being the whirlwind I didn’t know I needed, Nangis. You may be gone, but you’ve left an indelible (and noisy) mark on my life.

Until next time, you crazy kids—don’t forget to save a slice of cake for me!
